LLY's Mounjaro Gets FDA Nod to Cut Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes

The FDA has approved Eli Lilly's Mounjaro (tirzepatide) to reduce cardiovascular risk in high-risk adults with type 2 diabetes. In a 13,299-patient study, Mounjaro showed an 8% lower MACE-3 rate than Trulicity, meeting non-inferiority objectives. With $18.6B in first-half 2026 sales, this expanded indication could drive further growth and narrow the competitive gap with Novo Nordisk's Ozempic.
