Boehringer Ingelheim announced positive Phase III SYNCHRONIZE-2 trial results for survodutide, a glucagon/GLP-1 receptor dual agonist, showing 13.1% weight loss versus 3.1% for placebo in people with obesity and type 2 diabetes after 76 weeks. The drug also demonstrated significant improvements in HbA1c reduction (1.21%), waist circumference, and insulin sensitivity. However, gastrointestinal adverse events led to 18% treatment discontinuation compared to 1.2% in placebo. The company expects cardiovascular outcomes trial results later this year.
