A Word of Caution on NuScale Power Before You Buy the Dip

A University of Colorado Boulder study estimates NuScale's small modular reactor operating costs at over $93 per MWh, significantly higher than historical electricity market prices of $42-45 per MWh. The research suggests that even if reactors were built for free, they might not pay for themselves over their 60-year lifespan. With no commercial reactors deployed yet and a previous project cost ballooning from $4.2 billion to $9.3 billion before cancellation, investors should exercise caution until NuScale demonstrates it can build and operate reactors cost-effectively.
